The band program at Ecole Camille J. Lerouge consists of approximately 140 students in four concert bands and two jazz bands.
The concert bands include the Grade 5 Beginning Band, the Grade 6 Band, the Grade 7 Band, and the Grade 8/9 Band. Students start in band in grade 5, and are typically playing level 3 music by the time they reach the top level group.
The junior jazz band is an introductory jazz band covering basic styles and improvisation techniques. The senior jazz band acts as an ambassador for the school and has the most demanding performance schedule of the six groups.

Mr. Michael Mann
Band Director
Michael holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of Calgary, where he studied secondary music education and percussion. Since his graduation in 1995 until 2014, he has taught band and K-12 general music at River Glen School in Red Deer. During the 2014 and 2015 school year, he taught music and band at Penhold School and Penhold Crossing Secondary School. He currently teaches band at École Camille J. Lerouge School in Red Deer.
Along with his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Mann has been with the Red Deer Royals since January 2004 where he held several positions; Percussion Coordinator, Interim Director, and Music Director. In 2012, he took over the position of Director of Bands of the Red Deer Community Band Society and Director of the Red Deer Royals.
In addition, Michael is active as a clinician and guest conductor. He has performed with the Calgary Civic Orchestra, the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra, and the Alberta Winds professional wind ensemble. In 2011, Michael was inducted into the International Bandmasters’ Fraternity, Phi Beta Mu. The fraternity recognizes band directors for their outstanding contribution to the band movement.
Michael is married to Jennifer Mann and they have two boys, Zachary and Aaron.

École Camille is a Prekindergarten - Grade 9 French Immersion - English dual track school. The French Immersion program includes K through Grade 9 and the English program is grades 6 through 9. École Camille is Red Deer's Catholic French Immersion school. French Immersion students are bussed from all areas of the city and county. The English students come from our feeder schools of St. Elizabeth Seton School, St. Martin de Porres School, St Teresa of Avila School and county schools. There is a student population of over 900 students.
